emergency
if you need help right now.
the action steps for a medical or mental-health crisis, and what to do once you're safe.
emergency
norm is not for medical emergencies.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.
seek emergency care if you experience
- severe abdominal pain that does not go away (possible pancreatitis)
- signs of an allergic reaction — swelling of face, lips, or throat; difficulty breathing; severe rash
- severe vomiting that prevents you from keeping liquids down for more than 24 hours
- chest pain or difficulty breathing
- severe headache or sudden vision changes
- thoughts of self-harm
After emergency care, notify your clinician through the dashboard so they can update your treatment record.
mental-health crisis
If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
after you're safe
message your clinician through the dashboard.
Once you've received emergency care, message your clinician through the dashboard so they can update your treatment record and adjust your plan if needed.
If your emergency may have been related to a medication or dose, mention that in your message — it helps your clinician review whether to pause or adjust your prescription.

common questions
three things people ask.
what counts as an emergency for someone on GLP-1 therapy?
The list above (severe abdominal pain, signs of an allergic reaction, prolonged severe vomiting, chest pain or breathing difficulty, severe headache or sudden vision changes, thoughts of self-harm) covers the situations that warrant emergency care. Beyond that list: any “this doesn't feel right” instinct is reason enough to seek care. The cost of being wrong about an emergency is low; the cost of ignoring one is not.
will norm reimburse my emergency room visit?
No. Norm is a telehealth platform, not an insurance product. Emergency care is billed through your own insurance or out-of-pocket. After emergency care, your Norm clinician can update your treatment record and adjust your plan — they cannot bill or reimburse emergency visits.
should I stop my medication after an emergency?
Do not stop on your own. Message your clinician through the dashboard before your next dose. Depending on what happened, they may pause, adjust, or continue your prescription. Stopping abruptly can have its own clinical considerations — let your clinician make that call with the full picture.
